The first style described is “auditory learner” This sort of students are dependent on their “ears” for their learning and retention of what they have learned. They benefit through their keen hearing–speeches and lectures are their best sources of information.
Pictures speak louder than mere words. This holds true for “visual learners”. Charts and diagrams, even just a single picture–form the basis of their learning abilities. The educator who explains ideas and concepts via visual pictures has definitely gained the attention of these type of learners.
Now all teachers may not feel comfortable with “visual learners”. It is here that modern resources come to their aid. Any number of teaching aids are available for the teaching professional–graphs, visually-based worksheets, charts and power point presentations.
Another style is “learning by doing”. These action-oriented students learn via kinesthetics. Their methodical activities aid them in retaining information. Recipes and science experiments are a great hit with them. So modern teaching materials deal with kinesthetic activities too. And most of these activities are quite interesting!
Some States like Pennsylvania have brought out laws like Act 48, especially for educators. These laws demand that the teachers stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and latest information in the subjects they teach. Special classes and seminars are organized just for this purpose. They are considered as training sources. And this is not just for one year–it is every year. Credits are given for attending training classes. Every teacher is required to obtain a certain number of credits every year. For those who would like to work for these credits during their free time, there are resources that can be utilized at home.
No doubt, teaching is a challenging profession, but it also yields a number of rewards. The teacher is required to learn as he/she goes along. For students also act as teachers for teachers themselves! The person who has a passion for learning will become the greatest teacher!
