Weight loss with Yoga is possible but also involves eating a balanced diet and performing some postured based exercises. There are cases where obese individuals have lost weight while performing Yoga, but the primary requirement is dedication. If one simply performs Yoga without a change in lifestyle, you will be greatly disappointed.

O It reduces weight in a lasting and permanent way without causing any side effect to health, beauty and physical or mental condition. O It doesn’t cost to correct obesity. There is no disturbance to your normal life or a possibility of regaining the same weight even if yoga practice is discontinued.

Yoga Asanas

The classic feature of Yoga is the sitting down position with the back upright. This symbol of Yoga is widely recognized as one of serenity, peace and solitude. Most people perform Yoga by sitting down and then folding the lower legs on the thighs. The hands are then crossed over the back and each of the foot is held in the hands. Once this position is acquired, one remains straight for a few second without breathing.

People of all ages , gender (men, women)and financial capacities can perform the yoga asanas to get relief from diseases. Obese people are said to lose their resistance levels due to which they become more vulnerable to disease like diabetes, etc. Any afflicted person whether suffering from a common problem like indigestion, constipation or hyperacidity or those who are suffering from serious ailments like diabetes or hypertension, yoga is proven to improve the performance and health of obese people at large.

When you practice yoga you should do so under the supervision of a qualified yoga instructor. Women, especially in their teens, tend to put undue strain on their muscles and joints due to the excessive weight they place on their bodies while exercising.

Because yoga has been around for centuries, there are almost more variations than we can list. But here is a brief description of some of the many and varied types of yoga that you may enjoy on your quest to finding the yogic path that best suits you.

Yogic disciplines generally focus maximum on postures and breathing. But some others focus on other things and use postures and breathing in a suitable way to have maximum impact. One good example is Vinyasa which allows breathing exercises while shifting from one posture to another. Though this form of yoga is quick, focused and not for beginners. It includes styles such as Ashtanga, Power Yoga, Kali Ray TriYoga, White Lotus and Jivamukti.

If you enroll yourself for a modern yoga class, you will find that it has many similarities with ballet. Most people take up yoga due to the grace, poise and flexibility it promises, like ballet.
