Do Anti-Aging Vitamins Really Work?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
by Lee Dobbins

Anti-aging vitamins are one of the most popular methods used to fight aging. The reason for this is because they promote an overall healthy lifestyle. You can combat the signs of age and even feel younger at the same time. Still, this industry is an extremely controversial one. Many people are quite cynical about the whole idea of fighting age. Because of this, it is difficult to get any truthful information on the subject. Most of it is severely biased. However there are three very well known vitamins which have been proven to have some effect on age.

Before we discuss the top three vitamins of this type, we need to understand what they are. They are more correctly known as antioxidants. Essentially, antioxidants keep us healthy. They prevent free radicals from damaging our cells and their membranes. Free radicals are the bad guys. They are what cause wrinkles, sagging skin, no elasticity, and bags around the eyes. Some of them occur naturally, with time. Hormonal aging is a prime example. However, outside factors produce the most devastating free radicals. Things like nicotine, alcohol, and the sun’s UV rays can all boost the aging process and make it manifest more quickly.

Is Fat Loss 4 Idiots an Effective Weight Loss Plan?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
by Cristina Conley

One of the hot diets out on the market is Fat Loss 4 Idiots, and it’s surrounded by an immense amount of hype, but in actuality, this diet (not unlike most diets) is not the panacea that it’s advertised to be, but it is an attractive diet for the right type of dieter.

Fat Loss 4 Idiots claims that they are the only diet on the market that will help dieters lose 9 pounds every 11 days. A clarification: that’s not 9 pounds in 11 days, that’s 9 pounds each 11-day period while on the diet. Obviously, this is a significant reason to be wary of this diet plan, or at least skeptical that its claims might be dubious, even for a fast weight loss diet!

Physiotherapy Treatment of Golfer’s Elbow

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008
by Jonathan Blood-Smyth

Golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis) is not confined to golfers, but occurs in many sportsmen and women, with racquet sports the most common causes. Other sports where golfer’s elbow occurs are in bowlers in cricket, archers and weightlifters. This and the more common tennis elbow are tendinopathies, overuse syndromes where there is no significant inflammation but a pathological alteration in the body of the tendon at the painful site.

The medial epicondyle is the bone prominence on the inside of the elbow where the forearm and rotatory muscle originate from. The muscles become tendinous near the bone and the tendon inserts into the bone to anchor the muscles. This area is where the pain occurs but there is no inflammatory process, rather a degenerative one. As the elbow is stressed by forces which would tend to push the elbow out into “knock elbow”, the tendon takes a lot of stress and changes occur.

The Pilates Ring The Pilates Fitness Ring The Pilates Circle

by Carol J Pearson

The Pilates Magic Circle, also called Pilates Rings are small rings used while executing Pilates exercises. The rings have a soft grip for your hands on either side of the ring, both outside and inside. The rings are usually made from a hardened steel and create resistance when squeezed. The Pilates Magic Circle is smartly designed and can be held between the ankles, thighs, or hands.

By pushing the hand grips closer together, more resistance is created, which makes the exercise harder. The Pilates Ring is employed to increase a regular Pilates exercises level of difficulty. The Pilates Magic Circle is designed to aid with the toning of thighs, legs, buns, arms and chest, by pushing, pulling, lifting, squeezing, and pressing down on the ring during certain exercises. The Pilates Magic Circle ring is designed to add gentle or moderate resistance to an exercise. The idea is not to try to crush it, using all of your strength, just add a little resistance.

Nature’s Profound Pain Reliever: Helichrysum Italicum

by Michelle Allen

So many folks are bearing some sort of physical pain, and are in need of an effective form of pain relief. One that is more than just a masking agent (one that just blocks the pain sensation), but instead heals while reducing pain. Helichrysum essential oil has the ability to do both. Noted by many therapists as one of the most profoundly healing essential oils used today, Helichrysum italicum is used with success for a great many physical ailments. One of North America’s leading medical aromatherapists has noted the oil’s effects to be so convincing as to have “never met with any kind of criticism” from the conventional medical community. The oil is readily available, and easy to use — here’s more about it, and how to make best use of it for your needs.

The essential oil steam distilled from the little yellow flowers of the Helichrysum plant (the oil is also known as ‘Everlasting’ and ‘Immortelle’) is in a class by itself for the three most important factors for a medicine: safety, efficacy and ease-of-use. Some essential oils used for pain must be used with caution; those containing methyl salicilate should be used sparingly due to their toxicity potential. Helichrysum however, has no such restrictions in the aromatherapy literature. It is in fact, one of the few essential oils recommended for direct application to the skin in the most critical or immediate cases.
