The Pros and Cons of the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter

The Topsy Turvy Upside Down Tomato Planter has caused quite a buzz in the gardening community with it’s promise to make tomato gardening easy. They claim that by growing your tomato plants upside down that you can get rid of many of the problems associated with growing tomatoes. No more worrying that your tomatoes will get to heavy for your plant, no more bugs, and the ability to easily pick your tomatoes with out having to crawl around the plant and dig through the branches but does it really live up to the hype?

The pros and cons of the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter:

Pros– Because the plant hangs upside down the tomatoes will not bend your plant in half.

Cons– Even though it is hanging upside down the possibility still exists that the branches will turn into a tangles mess.

Pros- – You end up with more free space in your garden because your tomato plants are hanging up off of the ground.

Cons — Because it hangs upside down you will need to have a place to put it that has very good support. With all the dirt and water up on top, the Topsy Turvy Tomato Planter can get very heavy.

Your also going to need to water your tomato plants twice a day because the dirt will dry quicker because it is not in the ground.

Pros– It is very easy to harvest the tomatoes. You will not have to dig through the vines on your hands and knees and you can walk all the way around the tomato plant to gather your tomatoes.

Cons– When the sun hits the planter it can make the dirt very hot and can kill your plants. To avoid this you will need to place aluminum foil around the planter to deflect some of the light.

Pros– Watering the tomato plants could not get any easier. To avoid mold growing on the roots make sure that every week or so you run the water through the dirt until it’s clear to flush out any old water in the sponges.
