The Bichon Frise Pup
With the fad of purchasing a Bichon Frise pup growing, it is extremely important for people to understand and truly be prepared for what they will get once they bring that puppy home. While Bichon Frise puppies are incredibly cute and cuddly, they can be quit a handful if not taken care of properly. Even if you feel that you are well prepared because you have raised dogs before, you must know that this breed is different from any other and they require certain things.
It is that they have a mind all of their own and are often known for being slightly stubborn and only wanting to do what they want to do. And this is a trait that will carry with them all through their adult years so it better be something that you can learn to either overcome or work around. It is very important that you do not let your pup walk all over you so that order can be maintained in the home.
The one thing that commonly makes people turn and run the other way when considering adopting a Bichon Frise pup is the fact that it is so hard to potty train. Because it can take an extra long time there could be messes that are left from the dog, which can actually cost you money if carpet is destroyed. But it is not that the dog is not trainable, it just takes a little more time than with most other breeds.
Since housebreaking is such an issue with this breed, it is no wonder that so many people quickly change their mind on bringing this breed home. But if you are able to provide the pup with a loving and stable home environment, there is no reason why you cannot make it work. The Bichon Frise pup is trainable, it just takes more time, patience, and love in order to make it happen and to make sure it sticks.
Even though most people would laugh at this and consider it common sense, you would be surprised how many people really and truly need to read this. Never hit, spank, spit at, yell at or otherwise abuse your Bichon Frise pup whether it is emotional or physical, abuse is abuse and is against the law.
Not only is it against the law it is extremely harmful to the pup and you will only get the opposite of what you want from the pup when acting in such a manner.
You want your pup to respect you and to see you as its master out of love and kindness instead of out of fear of abuse and fear of survival. If you are treating your pup the way you would want to be treated, you will see that training sessions and tasks move a lot faster and get better results then if your pet fears you.
Think twice before you ever speak in anger and always try to talk to your pet in a loving way.
