Your Pet And Taking Flights
As the price of flights is continually on the decline it seems that there is a similar increase in demand. The vast majority of us own dogs or cats and many of us (like | enjoy | take pleasure in taking our pets on trips with us when traveling by car or rail however when we consider traveling abroad by aeroplane few of us even consider taking our pets even though cheap flights are available.
Pet Air Travel and the Rules and Regulations
While it may have been common, in the near past, for airlines to allow pets to be kept on the passengers lap during air travel it is sadly almost never the case these days . This is due to the the dramatically increased security regulations now enforced by the governments or airlines . Also pet air travel can be rather problematic as a pet can occasionally become distressed or irritable to such a degree that it becomes rather a nuisance and certainly frustratingly difficult to keep under control .
Even though all small animals or pets are these days restricted to the cargo hold some caring airlines will permit a passenger to view the pet being transferred to and from the aeroplane. However it is of vital importance that, booking your flight you seek further advice about it from the airline.
Other Things To Consider
1.The Pet Carrier
Just like humans your pet needs to travel in both comfort and safety and most of this depends on the choice of pet carrier used or rented . The most important things to think about are the size, weight and type of the pet carrier which will, obviously be effected by the weight, size and type of the pet. There should be enough surplus space to allow your pet to move freely throughout the flight.
2. Pet Air Travel and Safety/Security Measures
At all times your pet container should be easily read by the airline staff to avoid loss, which is always possible with any air travel. All pet boxes should be marked clearly with both the destination and a home address and full contact details. Also it is strongly advised that you include the details of a further person in case of emergencies where you are unable be contacted. As well as having labels on the outside also consider also adding some to the interior. Also go to some length to ensure that your pet has a close fitting collar with an identification tag or similar. The risk of loss is least during direct flights.
If you can afford it also well worth considering having your pet fitted with an electronic tag which is injected beneath the skin by a vet. As soon as you know when and the destination you will be taking a flight to book an appointment with your vet (or at least call ) as he will be able to give important advice on what the requirements are when flying to another area or country. Your pet may require injections and there may be other restrictions or precautions to keep in mind.
By following the pet air travel tips and advice above, especially the last point, you will be ensuring your pet travels safely and without too much disturbance. However it is always advisable to search out as much information as possible before taking a trip and this is even more important when you plan to take your pet with you for the ride.
